Clean Out the Closet this Fall in your Irvine Home

Robin Fenchel September 28, 2012

You don’t have to wait for the spring to do a deep cleaning of the closet in your Irvine home! Now that the kids are back to school, and the weather is showing signs of changing, fall is a great time to clean out your closet and get organized! Here are some tips!

  1. Take Inventory: First, remove everything from your closet and give it a good cleaning. Vacuum or sweep the floor, and wipe down the baseboards. Once you’ve completed the cleaning, sort your clothes into piles: to keep, to store for next summer, to donate and to toss.
  2. Eliminate Items: This will be the most difficult part for some people, but you have to eliminate items to make room for new things. Keep that in mind. Now that summer is over, you can get rid of things like beachwear and other warm-weather garb that took a beating. Eliminate any items that are clearly past their prime.
  3. Accessory Overload: Women are great at accumulating accessories, but getting rid of them is another story. If you have more hats, purses, and jewelry than you could ever possibly wear in a year, narrow down your inventory.
  4. Shoes: If you have so many shoes that you no longer have room for all of the pairs in your closet, it’s time to get rid of some. Most people wear about two pairs of shoes 85% of the time, so if you’ve allowed you shoe collection to outgrow your clothing closet, it’s time to whittle down what you have.
